String Junctions and Non-simply Connected Gauge Groups

چکیده
Relations between the global structure of the gauge group in elliptic F-theory compactifications, fractional null string junctions, and the Mordell-Weil lattice of rational sections are discussed. We extend results in the literature, which pertain primarily to rational elliptic surfaces and obtain π(G̃) where G̃ is the semi-simple part of the gauge group. We show how to obtain the full global structure of the gauge group, including all U(1) factors. Our methods are not restricted to rational elliptic surfaces. We also consider elliptic K3’s and K3-fibered Calabi-Yau three-folds.

Realizing Higher-Level Gauge Symmetries in String Theory: New Embeddings for String GUTs
We consider the methods by which higher-level and non-simply laced gauge symmetries can be realized in heterotic string theory. We show that all such realizations have a common underlying feature, namely a dimensional truncation of the charge lattice, and we identify such dimensional truncations with certain irregular embeddings of higher-level and non-simply laced gauge groups within level-one...
متن کاملNonlinear Dynamics of the Rotational Slender Axially Moving String with Simply Supported Conditions
In this research, dynamic analysis of the rotational slender axially moving string is investigated. String assumed as Euler Bernoulli beam. The axial motion of the string, gyroscopic force and mass eccentricity were considered in the study. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton’s principle, resulting in two partial differential equations for the transverse motions. The equations are ch...

Wilson line on a non-simply connected manifold is a nice way to break SU(5) unified symmetry, and to solve the doublet–triplet splitting problem. This mechanism also requires, however, that the two Higgs doublets are strictly vector-like under all underlying gauge symmetries, and consequently there is a limit in a class of modes (and phenomenology that follows) for which the Wilson line can be ...
متن کاملInvariant Bundles on B - fibered Calabi - Yau Spaces and the Standard Model
We derive the Standard model gauge group together with chiral fermion generations from the heterotic string by turning on a Wilson line on a non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold with an SU(5) gauge group. For this we construct stable Z2-invariant SU(4) × U(1) bundles on an elliptically fibered cover CalabiYau threefold of special fibration type (the B-fibration). The construction makes use...
متن کاملNuclear Physics B341 (1990) 50—100 North-Holland LOCAL DISCRETE SYMMETRY AND QUANTUM-MECHANICAL HAIR
A charge operator is constructed for a quantum field theory with an abelian discrete gauge symmetry, and a non-local order parameter is formulated that specifies how the gauge symmetry is realized. If the discrete gauge symmetry is manifest, then the charge inside a large region can be detected at the boundary of the region, even in a theory with no massless gauge fields. This long-range effect...
